Funding (8h) is the funding rate of the current period of each exchange, scaled to eight hours and averaged over the exchanges by their open interest. Green means the longs pay the shorts, red the shorts pay the longs. OI / volume is the open interest divided by the volume of the last 24 hours. "n/a" means no exchange published the figure.
Open interest is the total value of the futures contracts that traders have opened and not yet closed. Volume counts every trade; open interest counts a position once, for as long as it stays open. It rises when new positions are opened and falls when positions are closed or liquidated.
Open interest divided by volume compares the two. A high ratio means the contracts that are open are large next to what is traded in a day; a low ratio means the market turns over its open contracts quickly.
A perpetual future has no expiry date, so exchanges keep its price close to the spot price with a funding payment between the traders. When the rate is positive, traders with long positions pay traders with short positions; when it is negative, the shorts pay the longs. The payment goes from one side of the market to the other.
A rate far from zero shows that one side pays a lot to hold its positions. Exchanges settle funding every one to eight hours, so this page scales every rate to eight hours, which makes the exchanges comparable.
The numbers are read from the public market data of Binance, Bybit, OKX and Hyperliquid every five minutes. Only linear perpetual futures settled in USDT or USDC are counted, and their amounts are taken as dollars. Inverse (coin-margined) contracts, dated futures and options are not counted. The open interest and the volume of a coin are the sums over the exchanges that list a perpetual contract of it.
An exchange is Live when it was read in the last 10 minutes, and Delayed when its latest read is between 10 and 30 minutes old; its figures still count. An exchange with no read from the last 30 minutes is Unavailable and is left out of every figure, so the totals then cover fewer exchanges.
